What is the #DAM big deal about accessibility?Last semester, I had the privilege of being taught by the one and only: Reem El Asaleh. With her guidance, fourth-year students were introduced to digital asset management (DAM) with a deeper dive into its properties, its structure, and its growing importance amidst a digital evolution. As part of our course criteria, students were to generate an infographic, depicting a topic of their choosing within the digital asset management realm. Today, I am happy to share my knowledge of how accessibility is an important consideration in digital asset management. Through keywording solutions to colour contrasting schemes, I conducted extensive research to understand the needs of those who may rely on alternative methods of support for a DAM software. As such, my designed infographic reflects basic expectations of what one with accessibility requirements might need and, more importantly, how they can be supported. I would like to thank Clemency Wright - Keywording Consultant for offering her generosity and time in educating me about the importance of keywording. Additionally, I am beyond grateful for Reem el Asaleh who was the main driver of this important conversation and a huge support throughout the process. Accessibility is something that often gets overlooked, especially in complex software/digital interfaces. In the words of Clemency, “we should be educating, supporting, and informing the people when it comes to designing with accessibility in mind”. Yesterday marked my first day as a Packaging Specialist co-op student at Weston Foods. I would like to personally thank Tasha Tuck and Kenneth Chiu for granting me this opportunity. Despite the shift to the virtual landscape, my student peers Cassandra, Lorena, Kevin, and I shared a wonderful achievement this academic semester. With great acceptance, we would like to thank Jay Mandarino and Lynda M. for selecting us as C.J. Graphics Inc. Award recipients.This award was based on a report discussing sustainable innovations in our current market. With the warm guidance of our professor, Donna Razik, we derived a report where we eagerly discussed the importance of sustainability of a given product and the long-term impact it serves in our future daily lives. We hope to make strides in the industry as future employees, and thanks to our sponsors, we feel inspired to create change from a sustainability lens. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to virtually speak to prospect university students on Ryerson's Graphic Communications Management (GCM) Students & Grad Panel. Throughout it, I shared my journey as a university student and my involvement in the program as well as the past co-op experience I had at Samsung Electronics Canada. I was alongside three other bright GCM students/alumni that also discussed their love for the GCM community and the avenue they took to achieve their dream job within this diverse industry.I would like to thank Jay Wong for organizing this event and inviting me to participate. Despite such trying times, many high school graduates are looking forward to starting a new chapter in their lives. A chapter, which we hope, that GCM will be a part of!
